Here is my attempt of the Chinatown scene I saw a few years ago in San Francisco. Done a little like Dong Kingman, a noted California watercolorist of the middle 20th century. I made a few edits and left out a building which did not add much to the painting. The lanterns were what really drew my interest. This is a 9"x12" scene on a 140 lb Arches watercolor block.
My current artistic interests revolve around flatness and design with maybe a feeling of 3-D using experiments with water media. Looking for patterns using my photography and notes and then transferring to a painting. And maybe including some whimsy and fun.
